ABOUT US
Iquitos, Peru
Iquitos is located in the northeast of Peru, very close to where the Amazon starts. Partly because of its isolated location Iquitos is a very poor city. Unemployment is high and the quality of education is very low. This ineviteble result is that many children get stuck in the vicious circle of poorness and a lack of education.
Arco Iris has therefor been founded to give selective children the opportunity to break with that. Arco Iris is a children's home that offers more than 20 children a safe home and an education. Typically these children were living in severe poverty, are from broken families or even orphans. They need to be taken care of and here they get this opportunity.
The main aim of this children's home is to give the children the possibility to grow up as a strong and educated person and to to take the destiny of their life in their own hands.
Arco Iris has been founded in 1993 as a Dutch foundation. It relies on fundraising, donations and volunteers.
Volunteers can add incredible value to the development of the children by giving them more personal attention. The conditions of the life in the city cannot be taken away by these types of initiatives and thats also not the goal. Creating a safe haven is the main purpose and this is where the volunteers play a very significant role. With the donations the financial foundation is secured and also here help is needed.
