PROJECTS

Children's home

Arco Iris hostst more than 20 children that came from poor and underpriviliged families. These families were not able to meet the basic needs of their children.
To provide these children with their basic care, each child has been assigned to a 'modulo'. Every modulo is run by a 'nana', freely translated into mummy. Currently there are two modulo's, each with their own sleeping accomodation. Furthermore the children eat together at the same table and do they look after each other. A modulo functions as a family.

Kinder garden

In the past Arco Iris hosted children ranging from all ages. Changes over the years have caused that Arco Iris mainly focusses on school-age children (6-17 years). Nevertheless, there are many facilities to host toddlers. Since 2015 Arco Iris started again to take in preschoolers in the form of a kinder garden. After the parents drop off their children in the early morning, a day-program starts specific for toddlers. Besides the daily care, these children receive their first forms of education in preparation of primary school.

Vacaciones Utiles

The summer in Peru starts in December and ends in March. These three months the children have holidays and don't attend school. That is way too long, says Arco Iris. The children easily lose past year gained knowledge and have dificulties to get started in the new schoolyear. During six weeks in the summer, Arco Iris offers education in the morning and in the afternoon. This time is being used to repeat information from the main subjects and also to teach new and creative practices. In the mornings the program is more about mathematics and languages. In the afternoons they swing their hip while learning traditional dances, or have other activities such as sports.

Proyecto Educativo

This project has been constructed to fight against the low educational levels in Iquitos. There are many reasons for this problem, one of them is the low quality of education given on the schools. To stimulate, support, and give extra knowledge to young children, they are able to keep the pace in the class and obtain good grades.
Proyecto educativo gives two hours of classes in the morning, and two hours of classes in the afternoon. These classes are open for all children from outside the children's home.

Esta programma recibe ninos cada dia por la manana hasta el fin de la tarde
